Madge Gill created many mediumistic postcard drawings in black and coloured inks and sometimes pencil. She often created several in each sitting, usually at night by dim candlelight. As with all her work, the postcard drawings were influenced by her spirit guide Myrninerest who Madge considered to be the true owner of her work. This was the reason why she did not part with hardly any of her work while she was alive, as in her mind they were not hers to sell. When she died in 1961 her vast output was discovered in cupboards and under her bed. The majority were given to Newham Council by her son and are still in their heritage collection today whilst the remainder found their way into the commercial art world.
Here are a selection of these postcard drawings which you can arrange to purchase by emailing us or if you are in London (N10) an appointment is possible to view the works. A few are unframed, but the majority are presented in wooden frames as single cards, diptychs and triptychs with prices from £495. Periodically we will exhibit a selection of the collection and post details of dates and venue on the website.
The ones shown with a red dot next to the details are already sold.
